Six services for a reporting room that holds together

NeoX Business Intelligence Limited offers a focused set of reporting services for teams that already have data but cannot yet read it with confidence. Each service can run on its own or as part of a larger build, and each one ends with written documentation, named owners and a review date.

The practices below are drawn from computer systems design and related professional work: careful definitions, tested pipelines, clear charts and a handover that leaves the client in control.

Dashboard Wall Builds

A dashboard wall is the main surface of the reporting room. We start by listing every figure the team currently checks by hand, then rank those figures by how often they drive a decision. The shortlist becomes the top row of the wall, and the supporting detail is arranged one row below so that a reader can move from a headline to the reason behind it without leaving the screen.

The build covers layout, panel sizing, refresh logic and the standards for colour and labelling. We connect the wall to live sources where the data supports it and schedule the refresh at a time that suits the operating rhythm of the business. Every panel carries a short caption stating its window and its owner. The finished wall is handed over with a runbook, a list of sources and a guide for adding a panel later without breaking the layout.

KPI Library Setup

The KPI library is the written record that every metric depends on. For each metric we capture the plain definition, the exact formula, the source table, the inclusion rules, the owner and the review date. Where two teams already report the same name with slightly different meanings, we document both versions and agree on a single canonical definition for the wall.

The library lives where the team can reach it during normal work, and it is versioned so that a change to a definition is visible rather than silent. We also record the retired metrics, because a number that quietly disappears from the reporting is often the source of a long argument later. Setup includes a short training session so that analysts can add a metric correctly without waiting for the studio.

P

Data Pipeline Reviews

Reporting is only as good as the pipeline behind it. Our review traces each reported figure back through its transforms to the source table or feed, and maps the joins, filters and scheduled jobs in between. We look for stale feeds, duplicate rows, silent null replacements and any step that depends on a person running something by hand each morning.

The output is a ranked list of findings with an effort estimate for each fix, so the team can plan the work in order of risk rather than in order of annoyance. Where a repair is simple we can complete it during the review; where it needs deeper work we scope it as a follow-on engagement. The review report is written for both engineers and managers, with a plain summary at the top.

C

Chart Loom Workshops

A chart that carries one clear message is worth more than a wall of decorative visuals. Our workshops take the team through scale and axis discipline, sensible ordering, restrained colour and direct annotation. Participants work on their own real tables, so the lessons stick to the data they already use.

Sessions are small by design and run in short blocks with review at the end of each one. We cover the common traps: truncated axes, too many series, colour used for decoration rather than meaning, and labels that repeat what the number already says. The group leaves with a written chart standard that matches the dashboard wall, so new panels look like the ones already in place.

H

Metric Health Checks

A health check is a scheduled audit of the live reporting estate. We verify freshness, completeness and the behaviour of thresholds, and we compare the headline figures against an independent count drawn from the source. Where a number cannot be reproduced, we record the gap and trace it back to the pipeline or the definition.

Findings arrive as a short ranked report with an owner for each item and a suggested review date. The check can run monthly, quarterly or at the start of each board pack cycle, depending on how quickly the underlying data moves. Over time the reports form a history that shows whether the estate is getting healthier or quietly degrading.

B

Board Pack Preparation

The board pack should tell the same story as the wall, only slower. We assemble the recurring pack from the same sources the daily reporting uses, so the figures in the meeting match the figures the operators watched that morning. Charts are prepared to the same standard as the wall, and every page carries a short written note on what moved and why.

The pack includes an appendix of definitions so that a director can check a term without leaving the document. We prepare the structure once, then run it each cycle with the team, gradually moving the assembly into the client hands so that the process does not depend on the studio staying engaged forever.

How an engagement runs

Step one: read the current estate

We review the existing reports, wall, spreadsheets and pipeline notes, and speak with the people who use them daily. The aim is to understand what is trusted, what is ignored and what is quietly wrong.

Step two: write the build plan

The plan names the panels to keep, the metrics to define, the pipelines to review and the order of work. It also sets the review dates in advance so that scope cannot drift unnoticed.

Step three: build in short cycles

Each cycle produces a working piece of the room: a defined library, a reviewed pipeline, a wall of panels. Every cycle ends with a review and a written note of what changed.

Step four: handover and review

The finished work is documented, owned and scheduled for a follow-up health check. The handover pack contains the runbook, the definitions, the source map and the calendar of reviews.
